Fantastic API, super easy

I just signed up for the Basic Plan API and it's fantastic! The Interactive Documentation made getting started incredibly easy. I had my project pulling exchange rates in no time. I was using it to get rates for 168 World Currencies and it worked perfectly. Definitely going to recommend Currencylayer to my developer friends!

Always a solid service

I've been using Currencylayer for a while now, mostly for the Professional Plan API for a few different projects. This last purchase was for another year of service, just renewing my subscription. Like always, the JSON API Access was consistent, and the Real-time Exchange Rates were reliable. It's why I keep coming back. Never had any issues with uptime or data accuracy. Good to see that hasn't changed.

Good value on annual plan

I was looking for an exchange rate API and decided to try Currencylayer. I went with the Professional Plan API and paid for the annual billing to get that 20% off. It seemed like the best deal compared to paying monthly. The Historical Exchange Rates API has been really useful, and the Currency Conversion Endpoint works well. For what I paid, it feels like I got a good amount of features and reliability. The savings on the yearly plan definitely made it worth it for my budget. Shipping took no time, since it's an API, you know.

Easy to set up, useful

So I grabbed the free plan first to test it out, then upgraded to the Basic Plan API for a small app I'm building. Setting it up was pretty simple, you know. I needed the Real-time Exchange Rates for a few currencies, and it just did its job. The JSON API Access was clean, no weird stuff. Overall, it was a smooth experience.

Thinking of signing up for the basic plan, does anyone know if they offer any discounts? Like a first-time user thing or something?

K Karen R. 3 weeks ago
Yeah, if you pay yearly instead of monthly, you usually get a good chunk off. It's automatic when you pick the annual option.

I didn't see any promo codes floating around, but the annual billing discount is pretty standard. Saved me like 20% on the pro plan.

Are their exchange rates really real-time? And where do they even get their data from, is it reliable for something like an e-commerce store?

A Amanda Phillips 1 week ago
They claim real-time, and in my experience for a small financial dashboard, it's pretty darn close. I've heard they pull from major financial institutions.

I use it for my store and haven't had issues with accuracy. The data comes from lots of sources, so it's generally good. Much better than trying to scrape it yourself, lol.

If I get the annual plan, can I cancel it anytime? What happens if I go over my API request limit?

M Melissa Jackson 2 weeks ago
You can cancel anytime, but if it's an annual plan, you've already paid for the year so you'd just finish out your term. For going over limits, they usually just stop serving requests until your next cycle or you upgrade.

Yeah, canceling just means it won't renew next year. And for limits, they usually just throttle you or cut off access until the next month, so your app might stop working for a bit if you hit it constantly.

Has anyone used both Currencylayer and Fixer.io? Wondering which one is better for a small app that just needs reliable exchange rates without breaking the bank.

B Brian Garcia 3 weeks ago
I switched from Fixer to Currencylayer. Found Currencylayer's documentation a bit easier to navigate, and the free tier was more generous for what I needed initially.

They're both pretty solid, honestly. I'd check the free plans for both and see which one's limits work best for your app. Data quality is comparable, I think.
